Wells was bred to be a champion, and he certainly knows it. He is a level-headed, intelligent colt, always staying out of trouble and keeping his calm in new situations. His handlers never have to worry about loading him or taking him out to the tracks - he's the dependable one. Wells has a good head on his shoulders, and he always thinks before he acts, unlike many of his reckless peers. Jockeys are often surprised by this horse's smarts - he's always evaluating the field, thinking of a new way to deal with the other horses, finding the best route to get to the front when he needs to be there. It can be difficult to always keep this colt's mind stimulated; it's like his brain is too big for his body. Being too smart for his own good will bring him far, though, especially with his immense heart and will to please.

Wells is a brainy colt, never making moves without thinking them through beforehand. He's a quick and easy loader, and breaks from the gate quickly and efficiently before nestling himself in the pack. He likes to be in the thick of the action, where he can watch the other horses and evaluate the pace and arrangement of the field. His jockey trusts his good brain, but also knows how to pace him just right so he can accelerate at the perfect moment - and eventually taking a win before anybody can notice or stop him.
